What's impressive about KILLOVER is how it is a game about the player screwing themselves over. This is a really hard thing to accomplish in a game randomness is often something that will immediately give the player something to blame when they lose. In this game, the only thing random is the spawn location and how your gun shoots, but even then, they were locations that the player spawned and ways that the player's gun shoots, meaning the blame cant fall on the game but relies solely on the the player remembering each loop enough to avoid their own mess. That combined with the tried and true difficult thing to add to a 3D game, aiming, makes for a truly challenging game of memory and accuracy that I'm sure has plenty of strategy that can be built off it.

One more thing though, I love the art style. It doesn't necessarily fit a niche that the game was going for, its just fun and different. Sometimes, that's all a game needs to stand out, but pair that with an amazing game design, and you've made a fantastic game!

Super fun! Would love to see this expanded upon!

It's really fun. My strategy was to just line them up so they all shoot in the same direction. Makes it easier to hit them and not get hit. Kinda morbid 😅

(+1)

same here! although it eats up your time a bit.

This is really goood 330! Love the poses

What a game!
This is absolutely the best game on Itch.io I have played, and personally my winner of the Jam!

I'd love seeing more from you guys (and will also sometimes return on this game which is just too addictive).

It's crazy to me (who kinda am into gamedev and really into CS) how you created this in so little time!
I have lots to learn from you guys

I simply cannot stop playing. There must be a strategy somewhere. great game :D

I think there might be a point in the later loops where the firerate of the gun makes it actually impossible to shoot all of yourself in time -- around 60 or so?

Yeah there's a theoretical limit, can't go infinite

there could be like, a fifth-of-a-second time extension for each new loop, and someone would surely find a way to go infinite.

Sword and a new map coming soon guys :)

HYPE!

Sooo good

pretty cool, would love to see a full version

I looovovveeeee ittt

Excellent!

Loved the loop, the mechanics

My only question is how tf did you make the filesize so small, Godot's export size is horrible on my experience

(1 edit) (+1)

Do I have the video for you:

tl;dr: you have to have the Godot source code to compile export template for yourself (it also allows you to encrypt your game, kinda useful) and you strip-off Godot's component your game doesn't use (spoiler: a lot)

All the tools are a bit annoying to install but the few hours to understand and do so are worth it

For the web you can also use brotli compression on top of that.

bless ur heart quentin 🙏 thanks

i've played a lot of these "play against your past lives" games, they're usually very tedious and exploitable. this is probably my favorite version of this. i got 525 points (2nd place). i'm not a fan of the different guns though, i lose because shotgun is too slow and time runs out. needing to deal with different weapons is interesting except they're completely unbalanced. shotgun doesn't even kill clusters quickly. so it's just RNG as to how long you can go without getting shotgun at the end. also the random spawn locations is annoying. you basically have to reset if you get a bad first spawn. probably should have a maximum spawn distance that gets bigger over time so you can't get too unlucky right away

This game is F***ing brilliant i had so much fun

Has anyone else had a problem with their cursor not being locked to the game? Really hard to control the camera when turning too far left moves my cursor to my other monitor ._.

my cursor isn't being locked to the game too

Have you tried clicking out out of the game and clicking back in? WASD should also lock back the cursor in the game
If nothing works, can you tell me more about the browser and OS you use please?

Yep, tried all that. I tried playing in Safari on macOS

I'll have to investigate, thankyou

Hi! Would you like to try again? I've implemented a few fix with the new update, maybe your problem is now fixed

(+1)

It's fixed now, thanks!

This game is so addicting!

La idea de este juego es increíble, creo que no había visto una mecánica igual implementada en otros videojuegos, un 10 de 10 amigo, sigue así!!

This game is great. I wish there was a way to see your best on the main menu or more than just the top 10, but other that I'm having a blast. 5/5

I dig how chaotic it turns out XD Had a good time, great job :)

I thoucht it'd be easy. I'd walk right up to the guy each time so I could easily execute my past selves, all standing in a line. It worked real well, except ONE TIME I accidentally shot a stray bullet -- and it hit me the very next time.

Too good for your own good

ha! :)

somehow the best enemy AI is yourself.

I was grinning ear to ear throughout the entirety of this game's runtime. So simple yet so fun and whimsical. The poses are such a smart idea being simple to animate yet so fun and making for great freeze-frames.

Wicked fun and a great concept! Here is one minor suggestion after playing for over an hour:

I would say that more than half the time that I died, it was because a past me walked into me unexpectedly. I'm guessing that the death-touch was added to prevent janky strategies, but there must be a better way. It always felt anti-climatic when I was in the middle of dodging bullets.

Anyway, I'll be right on it if this game gets a full release.

This is AMAZING! Addicting, hilarious, inventive, fun to play - truly the perfect combination.

Crazy concept of looping. Good job!

Hello! I'd just like to ask what, if any, games inspired this one, or perhaps what are some similar games? Because I'd love to play an expanded version of this.

(+3)

Hi, thank you for playing! Unfortunately there's not really a game that inspired this, but I might add more maps and weapons in the future :)

(+1)

That'ss actually awesome, not unfortunate

Cool!

(+2)

i think it's kind of similar to super hot

(+2)

Straightforward, fun, and really aesthetically put-together. Great job!

Great concept! Simple to start play and difficult to master. Lots of fun and lots of strategies to try.

(+1)

Very cool! I wonder how those highscores were achieved

Super fun! What engine did you use?

Godot !

Released version 1.5 with some bug fixes and optimized the file sizes (both web & windows version). Don't hesitate to tell me if you see new problems because of the new filesize tech!

Goofy, fun, cool game. My favorite part was seeing me a lot.

Super fun game!! Awesome concept and gameplay, really enjoyed playing this!!

Worth noting there is a crate pile you can fall into and get stuck in. Crazy addicting game!~

Really charming

Very fun gameplay mechanic! Also the shooting poses give a lot of character!

I left my review in the jam submission but I wanted to ask here, how did you get the images to look how they do on the sidebar? I only seem to be able to show or hide. Thanks!

Hey! You have to ask the custom css access, here's the guide: https://itch.io/docs/creators/css-guide

Thank you!

just an idea I'd like to throw out there; if you ever end up expanding upon this game, I think it would be fun if there was a competitive multiplayer mode where everyone spectates one person as they do their run. That or it rotates between players in a single run. I just want more reasons to play this game and make my friends play it lmfao

(+2)

I saw you're aware of the camera issues, otherwise a small thing I would definitely change: zooming in/aiming with right click doesn't change mouse sensitivity, making it feel much faster and harder to aim.

Oh, good point, that will be added in the post jam version

(+2)

At first I thought the idea was smart but after playing the game I just think its perfect. There is no easy to find exploit to the concept. Everything feels good. Really fancy, loved it and had a lot of fun playing it. Surprised about the scores that people manage to pull off tho xd.
